ADOBE ILLUSTRATION
Daydreamer
Illustrating a dreamy landscape for sleepy commuters.
I was commissioned by Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund to create a series of social media posts, testing out the beta version of Illustrator for iPad. It was an open creative brief, to test out the new tools for illustrators, only available on the iPad. What a dream!
Freelancing in Taipei, I take the metro to work in different parts of the city every day. While 99% of people are glued to their phones, I often find myself sitting opposite a sleeping stranger. I had previously started making a series in Adobe Draw, and wanted to see how this could be improved upon using Illustrator’s new features. Using the pen and pencil tools to draw the organic elements felt really natural, while the shapes and shape builder made the geometric buildings simple and clean. The grid and radial repeat tools allow you to get lost in the details and quickly build up the city. Using the colour dropper to carry through the colours from the figure into the cityscape, created a surreal, dreamy scene beyond the window. I supplied Adobe with three variations of the final design and social media assets for them to promote Illustrator for iPad. This project was since featured on Behance!
